Bio-Digestors Methane
METHANE TUBULAR BIO-DIGESTORS
Design and installation of TUBULAR BIO DIGESTORS, for the production of methane gas (CH4). The methane gas obtained can be used as fuel for a water boiler or heating.
TUBULAR BIODIGESTORS
If you have manure available or livestock droppings or excess plant remains, I suggest you put them every day in a tubular biodigester and obtain methane gas. The methane gas, once filtered and dried, can be used to produce electricity or, if you want, directly, to heat water or cook.
I suggest three sizes of biodigesters, or even custom-made material, according to your needs.
Each biodigester is made up of PE sheets in the shape of a cylinder. It is mostly buried to maintain heat. Each biodigester has a diameter of 95cm, 140cm or 190cm. The length will depend on the amount of manure available, the working temperature and the days of retention.

TUBULAR BIO DIGESTORS PROFILES
Each bio digester is built individually, starting from a specific diameter.
Minimum variables to know:
- -Amount of manure obtained per day and animal species (expressed in fresh kg). If instead of animal manure you have a lot of plant remains, indicate it
- -Location of your plot. Altitude and annual summary of temperatures.
- -Availability to use biol (organic by-product obtained with the production of methane). Biol is used as an organic fertilizer.
- -Availability of space to open one or several trenches (minimum 50cm deep).
HOW METHANE GAS IS OBTAINED
Methane or bio-methane is obtained from the decomposition of organic matter through anaerobic processes (without oxygen). As a by-product, a liquid fertilizer called biol is obtained. The decomposition of organic matter is carried out in the biodigester where there is a bacterial fauna. Therefore, the obtaining of methane is a completely natural process, only carried out in a container with favorable conditions.
The stages of organic decomposition are: Hydrolysis, Acidogenesis, Acetogenesis and Metonization. Each stage is carried out inside the biodigester, with different conditions and a different bacterial field.
WHEN CAN METHANE BE OBTAINED?
Since it is a completely natural process, there is no exact formula. There are also references according to the type of manure used:
- Bovine manure (25ºC – 50 days): 1 Kg of fresh manure => 35 Lt of raw methane (60-65%)
- Pig manure (25ºC – 40 days): 1 Kg of fresh manure => 61 Lt of raw methane (60-65%)
- Energically, 1000Lt of methane (CH4) at 60-65% has a potential of 2200W electrical (at 30%) or 3200W in the form of heat (at 50%).

USES OF METHANE GAS
The methane or bio-methane obtained is stored in the same biodigester, which produces a volume every day, depending on the amount of effluent incorporated.
The methane obtained can therefore be used every day or reserved. Its most common use is:
- Burning it in a kitchen (the output cliché must be adapted). It is a way to save natural gas, or propane or gas/diesel oil
- Burning it in a boiler to obtain hot water. It saves conventional gas or diesel oil
- If the gas is purified, filtered and dried, it can be introduced into a combustion engine coupled to an electric generator. Therefore, the methane will be used to make electricity.
IS A PERMIT REQUIRED TO PRODUCE METHANE FOR SELF-CONSUMPTION?
If the methane obtained is transformed to a power factor (W or kW), and this is less than 15kW, it would be like a photovoltaic system for self-consumption. City council permission for works and change of livestock manure protocol.
AN INDIVIDUAL CAN HAVE OR MAKE HIS OWN BIODIGESTO?
Yes, only it will be smaller. The important thing is to know the amount of organic matter (you can even pour the black water from the house), or plant remains available.
THE PRODUCTION OF METHANE ON PIG FARMS
There is now an obligation to cover the manure pits. It is a very good option to collect the methane that is obtained. Likewise, it is necessary to carry out a prior study of the type of manure (amount of liquid present), to evaluate pre-treatments (liquid fraction separation, etc.).
